BBQ Chilli Wings

A very simple but delicious chicken wing recipe!

Feeds: 4

  • 1kg chicken wings

  • Lemon juice (to wash chicken)

Seasonings -

  • 2 tbs Chicken seasoning (I use the Dunns River)

  • 1 tsp Cayenne Chilli powder

  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

  • 1 tsp Ginger powder

  • 1 tsp Honey

Dressing once cooked -

  • 3 chillies (sliced)

  • Optional: sesame seeds for dressing

Homemade BBQ sauce -

  • 2 tbs tomato puree

  • 1 tbs honey

  • 2tbs Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbs vinegar

  • ½ tbs brown sugar

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

1. Wash chicken with lemon juice and rinse with water. Trim or burn (using a lighter) large hairs. Pat dry with a kitchen towel.

2. Using the seasoning listed above, fully coat all wings. Add honey last and massage through. Set aside.

3. Place wings onto an oven tray – make sure you use non-stick foil or lightly coat the foil with spray oil to ensure the chicken skin does not stick. If you have an air fryer, preheat your air fryer. Alternately, you can bake in the oven for 25 minutes (turning each side after 10 minutes) at 200 degrees (fan oven).

4. You can make your own BBQ sauce (as detailed above) or use one from the supermarket. Once wings are cooked, coat with bbq sauce and dress with sliced chillies and sesame seeds. I sometimes pop the wings back inside the oven for a glassier look!
